I wrote about activity in the botanical garden before. Yeah…botanical garden named Kamisakabe West Park, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It was about “How Japanese Children Study About Environment”. And now I’m writing again…one of event in this botanical garden. What is it??…What kind of event is that??…You want to know, huh…??…Here you go…event about leaves, leaves exhibition. Sounds very interesting, right??…
I am glad when my friend told me about this event. Sounds interesting! And I believed, this event had been teaching people about nature, more..and more…! I know, I am not capable to write it. But I’d love to write about something that’s very educative and inspirative. I‘ve never seen an event like this before. So, I am excited to share with you guys…
I wish I could visit this event. It’s far away from where I live in Singapore, and Kamisakabe West Park in Japan. But…you know, even I can’t visit and look this event directly, I am very happy. You know why? Because I have kind friend who shared it with me. Share about educative activity and inspirative activity. So, I can learn and study about leaves too Isn’t it great??…
Few weeks ago, first week on November, my friend gave me some pictures about this event. These pictures she took a few days before exhibition opens. And yesterday, she sent some pictures and description about leaves exhibition. You know, this is a long event, starts from November 8th 2014 until November 30th 2014. Wow…that’s great to visit botanical garden in this week end, right??…Of course for you that lives nearby Kamisakabe West Park, or around Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Do not ask me, I want to go or not, I really…really… want to go, but…it’s far away (I wish I could fly without wings )…
My friend is a volunteer in this botanical garden. She is a gardener at botanical garden. I guess it’s a big job being gardener (Ryo-san ganbatte kudasai ne!). To create this great event, they were divided in a team. Each team in charge for one classified of leaf. They collected many kind of autumn leaves from botanical garden. Every single team, made some craft by leaves, like a mask, a doll, a laminated leaves, and many other craft they made. My friend in charge too to made a craft. She called it “Botanical Garden Dream Catcher”! Wow..sounds great! These crafts made by wild grasses and herb. My friend told me, she went to hunt until down under the bridge. Good job I wish I could help you to collect some leaves and grasses at that time.
As you see, many kind of leaves in this event, right??…Do you know about that leaves, or you do not know what kind of these leaves are??..Honestly, I do not know guys…and until my friend told me about leaves exhibition in her botanical garden, I studied again by reading. As far as I remember, I was studied about plant in the secondary school and high school. After passed from high school I can’t remember again about it.
Many kind of leaves in this event. If you do not know about leaves, let’s study together to classify these leaves Let’s rock! Leaves divided as simple leaf and compound leaf. Can you tell me what are difference between simple leaf and compound leaf??…A simple leaf has a single blade, and the blade is not subdivided into smaller leaflets. For example, mango leaf, Guava leaf. These are example of single leaf. And what is compound leaf??…A Compound leaf is a leaf that divided into smaller units, called it leaflets. Like rose guys…is one of compound leaf
What is compound leaf like?…First, called it compound palmate-shape. You know, this leaf is like the palm of your hand. You can see in one of these pictures, that leaf blade is subdivided into five distinct leaflets. The other example of compound palmate-shape is the blade that subdivide into three distinct leaflets. The second is… called it compound pinnate. Compound pinnate have two kind of leaves. First, compound pinnate leaf that have a terminal leaflet, and the second, compound pinnate which the terminal leaflets is not present. The third kind of compound leaf, called it compound bi-pinnate. Compound bi-pinnate that when the leaflet is subdivided again into smaller units, called secondary leaflets.
Maybe you are confused with my explanation. I know that…But you can look by pictures that I drew. Sorry I am not good at drawing, but I am trying the best I could. For this case, maybe it’s more easy to understand when you are learning by pictures, right? You see that picture I drew and then you see leaves pictures in this exhibition. The point is…you can classify many leaves around you Good Luck…!!
Many thanks to my friend Ryo Rakusui, who’s share this great activity. This event is educative and inspirative. With this leaves exhibition, many people would know many kind of leaves in the world. And many people have been learning. Not only Japanese people who visits Kamisakabe West Park in which the exhibition opens. But…I am learning too
